Senao 2611 CB3 Dlx 100/200mW 802.11b AP

From Townsville Community Wireless Wiki

Recommended for use on the Townsville Community Wireless network

The 200mW versions of these APs have very high recieve sensitivity, and high output power, and seem specifically designed for long range use. The excelent recieve sensitivity of these cards will be of more benefit to you as a client than the transmit power increase over the 100mW version. The 100mW version is a different chipset and has generally poorer performance all round.

Note: the 200mW version is recommended over the 100mW version due to it's greater sensitivity (the extra power doesn't hurt either)

Blurb from the Techtopia website:

This is Senao 2611 CB3 Deluxe Access Point/Ethernet client, featuring web-based config, 100mW OR 200mW radio, and a detachable antenna using the rgTNC adapter.

The OEM Senao AP doesnt have a client mode, as per SVEC, Minitar and Dlink offerings, instead it stores a client image on the internal flash, and can be reloaded with either an AP or Client persona, via the web interface.

Once this has been loaded it changes from its AP persona, to that of a client. This unit is a very good client, and seems to associate with anything. It has been tested with Dlink 900AP+, Lucent units, and Ciscos. It works in both infrastructure and ad-hoc modes.

In the AP mode it has the usual features of MAC filtering, and 128bit WEP.

For those interested in logging out of these units, please check this excellent webpage on the subject; PLANETaXis - wireless -senao. Marcus has managed to decode the info from within the web interfwace, and log it to rrdtool/mrtg. Also Zombie, from Penguincare wrote this handy script to handle the MAC address handling issues

This unit works with the POE injector listed in the POE section (of Techtopia's Website), and will even run OK on the 12v powerpack on leads up to around 20m.
