March 7 2008 - Castle Hill AP Goes Online
With the assistance from Code Valley, Townsville Wireless now has an access Point on Castle Hill. the ESSId is tsv-wireless-castle-hill-ap1. The AP Hardware is a Router Board running MikroTik RouterOs and using UBIQUITI XR2 Wireless Cards for the AP and the connection back to Mt stuart via AP3. The AP covers an area from South Townsville to Mt Louisa and reaching as far as Annandale.
October 21 2007 - Number 5 OS Upgrade
Number 5 had the hardware replaced and the OS upgraded to MikroTik RouterOs. This will reslove some of the reliability issues seen in recent times
An Issue with RouterOS 3.0rcXX has been identified, and therefore all RouterOS APs on Mt Stuart have been downgraded to 2.9.50. The issue affects G-Rates over distance with atheros chipsets. B clients should be pretty much unaffected. AIVAS
September 13 2007 - Mt Stuart AP3 Aerial Change
The Backbone AP3 was changed from the 12dbi omni to a Freenet 18dbi Panel to provide a better links to CodeValley, MainRoads the City, St Margret Marys. AP2 Aerial was retasked for Mt Louisa. Current data rate to Lucinda was 2Mb and from was 4Mb. Other Sites to report on Data rates.
June 30 2007 - New wiki server
This wiki has been shifted to a new server. It's running Debian Etch powered by an Intel E6420 (Core 2 Duo @ 2.13GHz) with 4Gb of memory. Sam Gardiner 10:03, 30 June 2007 (EST)
April 4 2007 - Mt Stuart AP3 goes 360
The Backbone AP3 was changed from a 24DBi grid Pac to an 12dbi omni to provide a wider coverage for the backbone links to CodeValley, MainRoads the City, St Margret Marys and Mt Louisa. So far the CodeValley and SMM sites were connected with good data rates.
April 3 2007 - Tiny Rebuild
The Mt Stuart Server Tiny went down last week and it was found to have a Mainboard Failure. Today the new server was installed thanks to Stretch. The new tiny is now a Intel Pentium D 2.6 with 512 DDR2 Ram all on a Gigatech MainBoard
Feb 9 2007 - New Node West End
Members of the Townsville Wireless Group assisted Evan Greensmith with his connection to the Wireless Mesh A Jaycar Cast Alloy 24dB antenna was used with a Freenet client modified for POE attached to the antenna was install at his residence in Barron St. A local AP was also setup to provide connectivity in the local area.
Feb 7 2007 - Linksys WRT54g v5 Runs Linux
Version 5 of these units can now be flashed with a micro version of Linux DD-WRT (Busy Box). 2 units are currently in use as Routers on the Townsville Wireless Network. These routers require a route put in the routing table on Mt Stuart for your network to be advertised. Apart from that they work great as an end point Router connected to a Freenet client for the link to Mt Stuart.
Jan 28 2007 - AP3 Link to City gets a new Antenna

Nov 13 2006 - Townsville Wireless <-> JCU Link Down
For a few more weeks, the Townsville Wireless <-> JCU link will be down as the box that does the interlinking is being replaced.
Oct 2 2006 - Servers Strike for more Rescources
Yesterday all servers on Mt Stuart went out on strike in a bid to get more RAM and better CPUs. A spokes person said that the need for better RAM was due to some fool increasing the front-side bus speed. In future, busses will be told to slow down in residential motherboards.
Jun 18 2006 - Long Haul 802.11g speed record
A 12.2km 4Mbps link was tested today using two 802.11g Freenet APs coupled with 25dB antennas. This represents the longest high capacity link achieved by the Townsville Wireless community using 802.11g radios. Detailed report...
